Barracuda WAIMAK is a multisport / adventure racing kayak that has been specifically developed for the legendary Coast to Coast race. Waimak is a fast and stable intermediate kayak, perfect for intermediate-level paddlers and great also for advanced paddlers competing in adventure racing. It’s also one of the best fitness kayaks ever made!
“First and foremost, the biggest advantage of the Waimak is the lightweight plastic, so there won’t be any fibreglass repair bills. The kayak will bounce off those inevitable accidental bumps with rocks, and the river rash in the shallow braids won’t bother it at all. In fact the proprietary Barracuda plastic is slipperier over braided rocks than fibreglass” says Steve Gurney.
There’s a lot of innovation that went into the Waimak. And it’s obvious from its eye-catching radical curves that we’ve been thinking outside the square. Knowing the (Waimakariri) river so intimately and the challenges that the river presents to paddlers, the designers made sure the boat is extra-responsive for the bluff rapids, and that it runs fast in the shallow braids.
The main feature of the spacious cockpit is the Bumfortable SeatTM. The seat has a high back and is completely lined with a closed-cell foam, making even the longest of the rides comfortable. Front cockpit rim is slightly raised for quick and easy entry. And the large rim size enables even tall paddler to put their knees out while sitting. The cockpit part of the hull is fitted with special stiffeners on both sides to reinforce the hull in case of kayak entrapment. There are plenty of attachment points inside to secure the air bags, drink bladder and a dry bag with C2C compulsory gear.
It won’t surprise you that the Waimak has been named after the iconic Waimakariri River that is the venue for the kayak stage of the legendary Coast to Coast race.
